Frequently asked questions

A cleansing water is a lightweight, low-foam makeup remover and daily cleanser applied with a cotton pad — you saturate the pad, sweep it gently across your face, and it dissolves makeup, sunscreen residue, and daily impurities without needing to rinse. It's micellar-style in texture, meaning the surfactants (here, gentle Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate and Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate) attract and lift both oil-based and water-based debris. No rinsing is required, though you can follow with a water-based second cleanser if you wear heavy makeup or sunscreen.

Tea Tree extract at 105ppm (Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Extract) is a functional concentration in a rinse-free cleansing context. Tea Tree's key active compounds — terpinen-4-ol in particular — have well-documented antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. In a daily cleanser it helps manage acne-causing bacteria on the skin's surface, reduces redness, and controls excess sebum without the dryness that comes from undiluted tea tree oil. At this level it works — it's not a trace ingredient added for the name.

The Biome Complex here refers to a combination of Bifida Ferment Lysate (a postbiotic that supports the skin's microbiome and barrier), Lactose (a prebiotic sugar that feeds beneficial skin bacteria), and Milk Protein (skin-conditioning and microbiome-supportive). Together they help the cleanser do something most cleansers don't: remove impurities while simultaneously supporting the skin's natural microbial balance. This is especially relevant for acne-prone or sensitised skin, where repeated cleansing can disrupt the microbiome and worsen breakouts or redness over time.

It handles daily SPF and light-to-medium makeup well — the Polyglyceryl surfactants and Dipropylene Glycol base are effective at lifting oil-based residue including most mineral and chemical sunscreens. For waterproof mascara or very long-wear, high-pigment makeup, a dedicated eye makeup remover or an oil-based first cleanser will do a more thorough job; the cleansing water is better used as your face cleanser in that case, followed by water-based second cleansing if needed. This is a real-world limitation of all cleansing waters, not a weakness specific to this one.

The formulation is well-balanced for both skin types. The surfactant system — Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate and Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate with Coco-Betaine — is among the gentler options used in K-beauty cleansers, much less stripping than SLS or SLES-based formulas. Tea Tree at 105ppm works on acne-causing bacteria without the over-drying effect of leave-on tea tree concentrates. The Bifida Ferment Lysate, Panthenol, and Centella Asiatica Extract all help maintain barrier integrity post-cleanse. One note for fragrance-sensitive skin: the formula contains Bergamot Fruit Oil and Phenethyl Alcohol, so patch-testing on the neck is wise if you react to fragrance.

This is a first-cleanse product — it works as a makeup-removing cleansing step before your main water-based cleanser. In a classic K-beauty double-cleanse routine it replaces an oil cleanser or balm, though it's lighter than both. Because it requires no rinsing, it's particularly useful for mornings (when a full double-cleanse isn't needed), travel, or days when your skin is too sensitised for a heavier first cleanse. If you're wearing SPF and light makeup daily, this cleanser alone — used thoroughly with multiple fresh cotton pads — can also work as a standalone single step.

It removes light to medium eye makeup gently when held briefly against the lashes before sweeping away. For heavy or waterproof eye makeup, a dedicated oil-based remover will be more effective. Always be gentle around the eye area — press and lift rather than rub, and avoid getting the product directly into the eyes.
