Frequently asked questions

This is a peel-off wrapping mask — a format where a cream or gel formula is applied to the face, dries into a flexible film over 20–30 minutes, and is then peeled away in one piece. Unlike sheet masks (which deliver hydration passively) or wash-off clay masks (which absorb oil), a peel-off wrapping mask physically lifts surface dead skin cells and dried-down sebum as it's removed, while simultaneously delivering the formula's active ingredients during the wear time. The Medi-Peel version combines exfoliation, hydration, and anti-ageing actives in a single treatment step.

The formula contains three exfoliating acids targeting different mechanisms. Lactic Acid (AHA) gently dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells at the surface, improving brightness and texture — it's also a humectant. Gluconolactone (PHA) is the gentlest of the three: it exfoliates similarly to AHAs but with larger molecules that penetrate more slowly, making it better tolerated by sensitive skin and leaving the barrier intact. Salicylic Acid (BHA) is oil-soluble and penetrates into pores to break down plugs and excess sebum from the inside. Together they address surface texture, pore congestion, and tone in a single mask.

After cleansing, apply toner and then a thin layer of moisturiser or cream first — this is specified in the usage instructions and creates a protective layer that allows cleaner peel-off and prevents the mask from adhering too firmly to dry skin. Apply an even layer of the mask across the face, avoiding the eye and mouth areas. Leave for 20–30 minutes until a transparent coating forms. Starting from the edges, peel the film away slowly. Do not apply to active breakouts or irritated skin. Follow with your usual serum and moisturiser. Use no more than 2–3 times per week given the acid content.

Pullulan is a natural polysaccharide produced by fungal fermentation of starch. In skincare, it creates an immediate, temporary tightening and lifting effect on skin by forming a thin, flexible film as it dries — the mechanism that also makes wrapping masks peel-offable. When the mask sets, the Pullulan film gently contracts, physically tightening the skin's appearance. After removal, this effect persists for several hours as a residual plumping and tightening sensation. It's a cosmetic rather than structural effect, but it's a genuine and fast-acting one — the "glow lifting" claim is accurate within those parameters.

Super 9 Complex is Medi-Peel's name for a blend of nine botanical extracts that form the antioxidant and skin-conditioning layer of the formula. The confirmed complex includes: Gardenia Florida Fruit, Terminalia Chebula, Centella Asiatica, Magnolia Kobus Bark, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea), Scutellaria Baicalensis (Baical Skullcap), Salix Alba (Willow) Bark, Portulaca Oleracea (Purslane), and Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root. These are primarily antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and brightening botanicals — they support the skin's recovery after the exfoliation step rather than functioning as standalone actives.

With caution. The combination of Lactic Acid, Gluconolactone, and Salicylic Acid means this mask has meaningful exfoliant activity — even though PHA is gentle, the presence of Salicylic Acid and Lactic Acid together makes this unsuitable for significantly reactive or barrier-compromised skin. The Centella Asiatica, Allantoin, and Panthenol in the formula do provide soothing support, and the PHA component makes it more tolerable than AHA/BHA-only formulas. People with mildly sensitive but not reactive skin can typically use it 1–2 times per week. Those with rosacea, active eczema, or very thin skin should avoid it.

No — not on the same day, and ideally not within 24 hours of another exfoliant application. This mask already delivers a three-acid exfoliation pass (AHA, PHA, BHA) plus physical peel-off action; stacking it with a retinol serum or AHA toner the same evening significantly increases the risk of barrier disruption, redness, and sensitivity. On days you use this mask, skip all other exfoliating actives. After removal, focus on hydration and barrier repair — a ceramide or peptide moisturiser is a better next step than a vitamin C serum.
