Frequently asked questions

The Lamelin Damage Care Hair Serum is formulated specifically for hair that has been compromised by heat styling, chemical treatments (colour, bleach, perms), or mechanical stress (over-brushing, tight styling). These processes break down the hair's natural lipid layer and roughen the cuticle, leaving hair porous, frizzy, prone to breakage, and dull. The silicone base seals and smooths the cuticle immediately on contact, while the oil complex — led by Babassu and Argan — replenishes the depleted lipids underneath. The result is visibly smoother, stronger-feeling hair after a single use, with cumulative conditioning over time.

Babassu (Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil) is a Brazilian palm oil that's become one of the most effective oils for damaged hair precisely because its molecular structure allows it to penetrate the hair shaft rather than just coat it. It's rich in lauric acid — the same fatty acid that gives coconut oil its penetrating ability — but without coconut oil's comedogenic profile or heaviness. For damaged hair specifically, penetrating oils that work inside the shaft are more restorative than surface-coating oils. Argan is present too, contributing its oleic acid and Vitamin E for surface conditioning and antioxidant protection, but Babassu does the deeper repair work.

These are distinct formulas with different oil profiles and fragrance characters. The Argan Original leads with Argan Kernel Oil at 10,000ppm alongside Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Macadamia, and Annatto — a broad nourishing blend with a rose-spice scent that works well as a daily serum for normal-to-dry hair. The Damage Care Sapphire leads with Babassu, a deeper-penetrating oil better suited to chemically treated or heat-stressed hair, with a softer floral-powdery fragrance. If your hair is generally healthy and you want daily shine and conditioning: Argan Original. If your hair has been through colour, bleach, heat damage, or feels brittle and rough: Damage Care.

The silicone base — Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, and Dimethicone — does two things: it smooths the hair cuticle immediately on application, reducing friction between strands, and it forms a protective layer that guards against humidity, heat, and environmental damage during the day. The "silicones are bad" concern comes from non-volatile, heavy silicones that build up over washes without clarifying shampoo. Cyclopentasiloxane and Cyclohexasiloxane are volatile silicones — they partially evaporate after application, leaving a lighter, non-occlusive finish. Dimethicone does deposit, but at the concentrations used in leave-in serums it washes out with normal shampooing. For damaged hair in particular, the protective barrier silicones provide is more beneficial than harmful.

Apply to towel-dried hair after washing — not soaking wet, which dilutes the formula, and not fully dry, where distribution becomes uneven. Use one to two pumps depending on hair length and thickness, warming it between your palms before applying from mid-lengths to ends. For damaged hair specifically: pay extra attention to the ends, which are the oldest and most compromised part of the hair shaft, and any areas where you regularly apply heat tools. Avoid the roots and scalp entirely. You can apply a small amount to dry hair between washes as a frizz-control and shine step, but keep it minimal to avoid build-up.

The Damage Care Sapphire has a noticeably different scent profile from the Argan Original. Where the Argan serum reads as floral-rose with warm spice notes, the Sapphire is softer and more powdery-floral — Linalool gives a clean lavender-like freshness, Hydroxycitronellal contributes a soft muguet (lily of the valley) quality, and Benzyl Salicylate provides a light, sweet-powdery depth. The overall effect is clean and understated rather than perfume-forward. Fragrance does contain potential allergens (Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Benzyl Salicylate are all disclosed), so if you have fragrance sensitivity, patch-test on your wrist before full application.

It works best on dry, damaged, colour-treated, or coarse hair — these hair types benefit most from the Babassu-led penetrating oil complex. For fine or naturally oily hair, the formula may feel slightly heavier than ideal; if that's you, use half a pump maximum and concentrate only on the very ends. For normal hair that just wants shine and conditioning without a damage-care focus, the Argan Original is a better fit. The vegan certification visible on the packaging also makes this suitable for those avoiding animal-derived ingredients — Babassu, Argan, Jojoba, and Macadamia are all plant-derived.
