Frequently asked questions

This toner works on three levels simultaneously: galactomyces ferment refines skin texture and boosts radiance, vitamin C (ascorbic acid at 10,000 ppm) targets dullness and uneven tone, and niacinamide brightens and minimises the appearance of pores. The result over consistent use is smoother, more even-toned, visibly luminous skin.

Galactomyces ferment is a yeast-derived fermented ingredient widely used in Korean skincare. It works by refining skin texture, improving radiance, and supporting a more even complexion. It is particularly well known for its role in the SK-II formula, but Some By Mi uses it as the primary active in this toner, combined with vitamin C for a compounded brightening effect.

It can work for mildly sensitive skin, but with caution. The formula contains ascorbic acid — a direct vitamin C — which can cause tingling or irritation on reactive or compromised skin. It also contains bergamot oil and lavender oil, both potential irritants for those with strong sensitivities. For very sensitive or barrier-impaired skin, a pure galactomyces toner without vitamin C would be safer to start with.

Use it both morning and evening after cleansing. Apply with a cotton pad or press directly into skin with clean hands. Because it contains vitamin C — an ingredient that degrades with UV exposure — using it in the morning requires sunscreen to follow. At night it works well before a serum or moisturiser. Daily use delivers better results than occasional application.

No conflict — this toner already contains niacinamide, so layering it with a separate niacinamide serum simply increases the total amount delivered. The old concern about niacinamide and vitamin C causing flushing has been largely disproved at normal cosmetic concentrations. Stacking both is a common and effective approach for brightening and tone-evening routines.

It is most effective for: uneven skin tone and post-acne marks (vitamin C + niacinamide combination), dull or tired-looking skin (galactomyces ferment + antioxidant vitamin complex), visible pores (niacinamide), and early signs of dehydration (glycerin, panthenol, adenosine). It is less targeted for active acne, deep wrinkles, or redness — those concerns need different primary actives.

The Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence is a ferment-focused product with minimal additional actives — it is gentle and foundational. This Some By Mi toner adds vitamin C, niacinamide, propolis, and a broad antioxidant fruit extract complex on top of galactomyces. It does more in one step, but that also means more ingredients with more potential for reactivity. For simple skin or first-time ferment users, Missha is lower-risk. For skin that tolerates actives well and wants faster brightening, this one is stronger.
