Frequently asked questions

This is a lightweight serum-ampoule built around Tea Tree Leaf Extract at approximately 1% concentration, formulated for oily, combination, acne-prone, and sensitive-to-breakouts skin types. It combines the antibacterial and sebum-regulating properties of tea tree with a hydration layer of three hyaluronic acid forms, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Betaine, and Panthenol, plus soothing actives including Centella Asiatica Extract, Madecassoside, and Bifida Ferment Lysate. It suits people who want to address breakouts and irritation without stripping moisture from the skin.

Tea Tree Leaf Extract (Melaleuca Alternifolia) contains terpinen-4-ol as its primary active compound — a well-studied antibacterial agent effective against Cutibacterium acnes (the bacterium most associated with inflammatory acne) and other skin microorganisms. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce redness around active breakouts. This ampoule contains Tea Tree Leaf Extract at 10,185ppm (approximately 1%) — a meaningful concentration for a leave-on serum, at the upper end of what's typically used for daily skincare without risking the irritation associated with undiluted tea tree oil.

The "biome" positioning refers to the formula's inclusion of microbiome-associated ingredients: Bifida Ferment Lysate, Lactose, Milk Protein, and Phenethyl Alcohol. These ingredients are associated with skin microbiome support. However, it's important to note that all four are present at trace concentrations — Bifida Ferment Lysate is at 0.202ppm in this ampoule, compared to 8,700ppm in a dedicated biome serum like the Medi-Peel Red Lacto Collagen Tightening Ampoule. At these levels, the microbiome claim is a marketing positioning rather than a meaningful clinical dose. The formula's genuine functional strengths are the tea tree extract, the soothing complex, and the hydration layer.

The soothing layer has four notable components. Biosaccharide Gum-1 — a fermentation-derived sugar polymer with independently tested anti-irritant data, shown to reduce the stinging caused by lactic acid by up to 47% in clinical testing. Centella Asiatica Extract — a well-established anti-inflammatory botanical. Madecassoside — one of Centella's most bioactive isolated compounds with documented wound-healing and anti-inflammatory effects. Panthenol (Vitamin B5) — barrier repair and soothing. Together these make this ampoule a reasonable choice for calming post-breakout redness and environmental stress, alongside the tea tree's antibacterial action.

Partly — with important nuance. The formula is alcohol-free and the soothing complex (Centella, Madecassoside, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Panthenol) is well-suited to reactive skin. However, the formula contains Bergamot Oil as a fragrance component, which is a phototoxic citrus oil containing furanocoumarins, as well as declared fragrance allergens Limonene and Linalool. For fragrance-sensitive or reactive skin this is the main hesitation. Tea tree extract itself can also be a sensitiser for a small subset of people. Patch testing before first use is recommended for sensitive skin types.

Apply after cleansing and toning, before heavier serums and moisturiser. Use the included dropper to dispense 3–5 drops, warm between palms, and press gently into the skin — particularly on breakout-prone areas (nose, chin, forehead). Because it's lightweight and alcohol-free, it layers well under a moisturiser or sunscreen without pilling. For best results with tea tree, use consistently morning and evening rather than spot-applying; the antibacterial effect accumulates with regular contact with the skin's microflora. If you use exfoliants (AHA, BHA, retinol) in your routine, apply those on alternate evenings to avoid potential sensitisation from combined active use.

Yes, but not at the same time. Tea tree extract and salicylic acid both target acne-causing bacteria and sebum — they work well together strategically but applying both in the same step can increase the risk of dryness and barrier disruption, particularly on already-stressed skin. The practical approach is to alternate: BHA exfoliant in the evening on clearer nights, tea tree ampoule on other evenings and every morning. Both are more effective on clean, well-hydrated skin than on a compromised barrier, so a ceramide or panthenol moisturiser after either product is advisable.
