Emulsion

An emulsion is a light, fluid moisturiser that comes after toner and essence. It's thinner than a cream, absorbs quickly, and gives skin a layer of lightweight hydration. Many people use it on its own in warmer months, or under a cream when they want extra comfort.

Both hydrate — the difference is weight. An emulsion is fluid and fast-absorbing, ideal for oily or combination skin and hot weather. A cream is richer and more occlusive, better for dry skin or colder months. Some routines use both, emulsion first, cream to seal.

Apply it after your toner and essence, and before any heavier cream or sunscreen. Smooth a small amount over the face and let it absorb. In the morning it works well under SPF; at night it can go under a richer cream when your skin wants more.

Not always. If your skin feels comfortable with an emulsion alone, that's enough — especially for oily or combination skin. Drier skin, or colder weather, is where adding a cream on top helps. Korean routines favour lighter layers you can adjust to the season.
