Korean sunscreen is available in Georgia at Beauty Bar, stocking 13 SPF products across six Korean brands — Farmstay, Skin1004, Beauty of Joseon, Missha, Enough, and Lamelin — priced from 29 GEL to 69 GEL. This guide explains why Korean SPF formulations differ from European ones, how to read the Korean PA rating system, and which product suits your skin type. Shop in-store at Al. Kazbegi Avenue 19B in Tbilisi, Batumi Mall in Batumi, or online at beautybar.ge
If you have tried a Korean sunscreen for the first time after years of European SPF, the difference is immediately noticeable. The texture is lighter. It absorbs faster. It does not leave a white cast. It does not feel like applying a barrier cream to your face.
This is not a marketing claim — it is a formulation difference with a technical explanation.
Filter technology: European sunscreens are regulated under EU cosmetics law, which has not approved several newer UV filters that Korean, Japanese, and American formulations routinely use. Filters like Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, and Uvinul A Plus — approved in Korea and widely used in K-beauty SPF — provide broader spectrum UVA coverage with lighter, more cosmetically elegant textures. The EU approved these filters in 2023 after years of delay, meaning European brands are only now beginning to reformulate. Korean brands have been using them for over a decade.
PA rating system: European SPF labels show a UVB protection factor (the SPF number) and a UVA circle logo. Korean products use the PA system for UVA — PA+, PA++, PA+++, PA++++ — where more plus signs indicate higher UVA protection. PA++++ is the highest rating and indicates very high UVA protection. For Georgia's UV conditions — index regularly reaching 8–10 in summer — PA++++ is the standard you should be looking for, not just a high SPF number. SPF measures UVB protection (burning). PA measures UVA protection (ageing and deeper skin damage). Both matter.
Skincare actives in SPF: Most Korean sunscreens include skincare actives alongside the UV filters — centella, hyaluronic acid, collagen, niacinamide, cica. This is not padding — it reflects a formulation philosophy where SPF is the final skincare step, not an afterthought applied over skincare. The result is a product that protects and treats simultaneously.
Georgia's UV index reaches 8–10 between May and September — classified as very high to extreme by WHO standards. At these levels, unprotected skin begins to burn in as little as 15–25 minutes depending on skin tone. The long-term consequences — accelerated photoageing, pigmentation, and elevated skin cancer risk — accumulate from repeated unprotected exposure, not from a single incident.
SPF is not a beach product. It applies every morning, year-round, regardless of whether you plan to be outdoors. UVA penetrates glass and cloud cover. Winter sun in Georgia is low-angle and reflects off surfaces — winter UVA exposure is real even when you do not feel it.
Farmstay Cica Farm Nature Solution Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ — 49 GEL Centella asiatica formula specifically designed for reactive skin. Calms while protecting — one of the best options for skin that reacts to the heavier textures of conventional sunscreens. Non-comedogenic.
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Air-Fit Suncream Light SPF50+ PA++++ — 65 GEL Skin1004's lightweight centella-based sunscreen. Ultra-light finish that disappears into skin — genuinely invisible on most skin tones. One of the most recommended Korean SPFs globally for sensitive skin.
Lamelin Cica Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ — 29 GEL The most affordable cica-based SPF in the range. Solid everyday protection with centella calming at an accessible entry price.
Farmstay Collagen Water Full Moist Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ — 49 GEL Collagen and hyaluronic acid alongside full SPF protection. Hydrating finish that works as a moisturiser and SPF simultaneously — an efficient choice for dry skin types who want to simplify their morning routine.
Lamelin Hyaluronic Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ — 29 GEL Hyaluronic acid formula at an accessible price point. A strong daily driver for dry skin on a budget.

Farmstay Oil-Free UV Defence Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ — 35 GEL Specifically formulated for oily skin — oil-free, matte finish, non-comedogenic. One of the most practically useful daily SPFs for Tbilisi's hot, humid summers where heavier textures sit badly on congested skin.
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Tone-Up Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ — 65 GEL A tone-up sunscreen that provides a subtle brightening base while delivering full SPF protection. Works well under makeup or alone for combination skin that wants coverage without a separate foundation step.
Lamelin Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ — 29 GEL A straightforward, no-frills SPF50+ PA++++ at 20.3 GEL. Reliable daily protection at the most accessible price point in the range.
Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++ — 69 GEL A solid-format sunscreen stick — particularly useful for reapplication during the day without disturbing makeup. Matte finish makes it practical for midday touch-ups in Tbilisi's summer heat. One of Beauty of Joseon's most globally recognised products.
Missha Magic Cushion Moist Up SPF50+ PA+++ — 45 GEL SPF cushion compact that combines coverage and protection in one product. A practical two-in-one for those who want a natural finish without layering sunscreen separately over foundation.
Application quantity is where most people underperform. The SPF rating on a product is tested at 2mg per cm² — roughly half a teaspoon for the face alone. Most people apply a fraction of this, which means the real protection they receive is significantly lower than the label suggests. Apply generously. Reapply every two hours during outdoor exposure.
Apply sunscreen as the final step of your morning skincare routine — after moisturiser, before makeup if used. In Georgia's high UV summer, reapplication at midday is not excessive — it is appropriate.
