Lamelin Gold Snail Peeling Gel

A peeling gel works through a process called pilling — when rubbed across dry skin, the cellulose polymer in the formula rolls up into small particles that physically lift dead skin cells, excess sebum, and surface debris off the skin. Unlike a scrub, which uses abrasive particles to mechanically sand the surface, a peeling gel produces no friction against the skin itself. The rolling action does the work, making it gentler on the skin barrier while still providing effective physical exfoliation.

Snail secretion filtrate in a rinse-off exfoliator plays a different role than in a leave-on serum or cream. Here, at 1,600ppm, it primarily provides a cushioning and soothing quality during and immediately after exfoliation — helping to offset the temporary sensitivity that physical exfoliation can cause. It also leaves a light conditioning film on the skin that helps it feel soft and less stripped after rinsing. It is not present at a concentration where the longer-term regenerative effects of snail mucin would be the primary benefit.

The gold in this formula is listed at 0.16ppm — a trace amount that functions as a cosmetic ingredient rather than a meaningful active. At this concentration it does not deliver the skin-regenerating or anti-aging effects that gold is associated with in higher-concentration professional treatments. The functional exfoliation work is done by the cellulose polymer, and the post-exfoliation conditioning is provided by snail mucin and glycerin. The gold contributes to the product's positioning and the visual shimmer of the gel, not to its clinical efficacy.

Apply to completely dry skin — this is important. If the skin is damp, the formula won't pill correctly and will simply smear. Take a small amount and massage gently in circular motions across the face, avoiding the eye area. Within 30–60 seconds you will feel and see the gel begin to roll up into soft particles — those are the dead skin cells and product debris being lifted. Continue for about a minute, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Follow with toner and the rest of your routine. Use 1–2 times per week, not daily.

The formula contains two ingredients that require attention for sensitive skin: Alcohol Denat and Isopropyl Alcohol, both of which appear in the ingredient list. Alcohol can be drying and irritating for reactive or barrier-compromised skin. The snail mucin and glycerin partially offset this, but if your skin is clinically sensitive, reactive, or prone to redness, this formula warrants a patch test before full-face use. For skin that is simply prone to occasional dryness but not reactive, it should be fine used at the recommended frequency of once or twice per week.

A peeling gel is a physical exfoliant — it lifts dead skin cells mechanically through the rolling action of the cellulose particles. AHA (glycolic, lactic acid) and BHA (salicylic acid) are chemical exfoliants that dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed naturally, and can also act inside the pore. Chemical exfoliants require careful pH management and can cause photosensitivity, meaning SPF is essential afterward. A peeling gel is more immediately visible in its action, gentler on the skin's chemistry, and requires no special precautions regarding sun exposure beyond normal daily SPF use.

Once or twice per week is the correct frequency for most skin types. Using it more often risks disrupting the skin barrier, causing increased sensitivity, and defeating the purpose of the snail mucin's soothing function. Do not use it on the same day as a chemical exfoliant (AHA toner, BHA serum, retinol). If you are using active exfoliants regularly in your routine, schedule the peeling gel on days when no other exfoliating step is planned. After use, apply a calming toner or essence before moisturiser to support skin recovery.
